Teaching Info
Each lesson has a warmup, a technical exercise, and a repertoire component.
The warmup includes tuning, Long Tones, Scales, and other exercises to help the student connect to the instrument and establish a relaxed, healthy use of the body while playing.
For double bassists, I use etudes and technical exercises from Simandl, Storch Hrabe, and Slama method books.
For Electric bassists, I use Rudy Weeks’ book Encyclopedia of Bass Logic.
For jazz students, I also use exercises from Ron Carter’s Building Jazz Basslines.
I also have students learn by ear and play along with recordings to learn the subtleties of different styles.
