Bio
Alex Keiser is a trumpet performer and teacher in New York, NY with 11 years of experience. His love for jazz and classical music began in middle school, leading him to win the concerto competition for the Florida Symphony Youth Orchestras at 18, where he debuted as a soloist with the Arutunian Trumpet Concerto. Since then, he’s performed with ensembles in Europe and Asia, as well as throughout the United States. As a freelance musician based in NYC, Alex can be heard performing all around the Northeast in orchestra playing trumpet, brass band playing cornet, church playing the natural trumpet, or even in a synagogue sounding the shofar. His orchestral experience varies widely from traditional opera to off-broadway musicals, and everything in between. More recently, he was involved in the the 2024 American Opera Initiative, where he premiered 3 new chamber operas under the direction of George Manahan. Alongside his freelance performance, he performs regularly as a solo cornet with the Imperial Brass Band in Westfield, New Jersey. Alex studied at the Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington, IN, under professors Douglas Lindsay, Kevin Cobb, and Jason Bergman, participating in various ensembles and performing with many different chamber ensembles. He also learned the baroque trumpet, deepening his appreciation for the era’s music, which he continues to study today. After earning his B.M. in Trumpet Performance in 2023, he received a Master’s Degree from the Manhattan School of Music under Professor Billy Hunter while starting his career as a professional freelance trumpeter and teacher. Alongside performing, Alex enjoys teaching and guiding musicians of all levels. After three years of teaching trumpet in Nashville, Indiana, he grew passionate about the art of teaching music. Today, he leads classrooms and maintains a teaching studio with students all over New York City.
Teaching Info
Each student will be treated with a high level of respect and understanding. I will cater to the needs of each of my students individually, and do the absolute best that I can to help them develop as a musician, and teach them to love performing and playing their instrument. In addition, most musical and fundamental concepts will be learned through actual music as opposed to just method books. Lessons will be interactive, and we will set attainable goals to strive for, so that we can aim to reach those goals every week, while still having fun and enjoying music.
