Bio
Charlotte Loukola, 23, is a Finnish American violinist currently studying at the Juilliard School with professor Masao Kawasaki. She has her B.M in Violin Performance from both the Cleveland Institute of Music (studying with Professor Ilya Kaler) and from Sibelius Academy (studying with Professor Réka Szilvay). Charlotte has competed internationally winning violin competitions both in the US and in Europe. She is a musician deeply passionate about the connections she can create with other people through mutual interest in music. This is why she has found music festivals especially rewarding. She has attended Heifetz International Music Institute, Aspen Music Festival and School, Keshet Eilon International String Summer Masterclass and Saluzzo Opera Academy, to name a few.
Charlotte is a versatile musician, having served as concertmaster and assistant concertmaster in several different orchestras, including the Saluzzo Opera Academy Orchestra, the Juilliard School Orchestra, and Protestra Orchestra. She is very passionate about chamber music, having won prizes with the ILO quaretet in several different competitions both nationally and internationally. She has also attended Juilliard School’s Winter Chamberfest and Musica Mundi Chamber Music Festival to further her education in chamber music.
Charlotte began her violin studies at the age of 3 using the Suzuki method. After her family moved back to Finland from the US when she was 7, she continued her musical studies at the pre-college department of Sibelius Academy under Professor Merit Palas throughout high school.
Teaching Info
I’m a very kind and empathetic person who loves to get to know my students on a personal level in addition to getting to know their playing style! I understand that people learn in a variety of different ways and I’m good at quickly seeing what is the most effective way for each student to learn. Making sure my students enjoy their time in their lessons is very important for me. I usually work best with students that can easily focus on the task at hand and are motivated to improve.
I completed pedagogical studies at Sibelius Academy during my undergraduate degree. With vast experience teaching in both English and Finnish, I am best at helping guide intermediate to advanced students with their technical and musical journey. When I teach, I focus exactly on what each student needs in the stage of their development that they are at. I have a wide set of tools to work on improving technique and helping people find a relaxed technique to help avoid injuries. I also really enjoy helping students find their own voice as an artist and helping them express their musical ideas.
