Bio
Hi students! My name is Matt and I have been a professional musician and music teacher in New York City since 2000. I’ve been teaching students online all over the world since 2014. My philosophy is that the best musicians have duty to be even greater teachers who are able to give back and find simple and easy ways to explain advanced musical concepts so that they are accessible to everyone. I’m not just a musician who just teaches on the side, and I’m not a teacher that doesn’t perform. It is important to me to be a teacher and a performer equally, and as a regularly performing professional musician in a city like New York, I bring real world performance experience to all of my lessons, not just the boring academic stuff, regardless of your level or musical experience, whether you are elementary school aged or a senior citizen, an extreme beginner or advanced. I’m really looking forward to working with you and partnering with you on your musical journey. Please check out the rest of my profile to learn more, and I really look forward to seeing you at your first lesson.
Teaching Info
I teach students from the beginner level to the advanced. If this is your first instrument, then I will start from the top and teach you how to assembly it correctly and safely and guide you to using the proper technique to creating your fist sound.
Every lesson is tailored to your needs as a student. I will help my advanced students with preparing and perfecting challenging audition material for things like All State and College Auditions, or I am available to help you get ahead of the rest of the class so that you can compete in your school band.
I love teaching jazz improvisation, and I encourage all of my students, regardless of age or level, to aspire to being able to do that. It is possible to learn the fundamentals of jazz improvisation even if you’ve only had a short period of time on the instrument. I’ve been introducing jazz improvisation to students for nearly 20 years and have always had the most rewarding results.
